About this Dauphin County 911 dashboard
This page shows the 911 calls Dauphin County, Pennsylvania dispatch is handling right now — fires, medical calls, vehicle accidents, and police dispatches — plus active road closures and out-of-service hydrants. It reads the county’s public dispatch feed every four minutes and is an unofficial mirror, not a county service.
About this dashboard
Everything here comes from the public Dauphin County Department of Public Safety WebCAD status page. This site builds on that raw feed: calls are categorized and color-coded, dispatch times are resolved to Eastern time, municipalities are matched to Census boundary data for the map, and everything is searchable and filterable on a phone. The county’s underlying figures are never altered or editorialized.
Dispatch times are published by the county as Eastern time and are shown as Eastern wall-clock time wherever you are viewing from. This site is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Dauphin County government or Dauphin County Department of Public Safety.

Frequently asked questions
- Who publishes this dashboard?
- A private individual, working from public data. Nobody in county government is involved in it, reviews it, or is responsible for it. Treat dauphincounty.gov and the Department of Public Safety as the authority on anything you read here, and call 911 if you need help — an email to this site reaches a mailbox, not a dispatcher.
- What is being read to produce this page?
- One county web page: the WebCAD status page at dpswebcad.dauphincounty.gov. A small function fetches that page, pulls the rows out of its tables, and hands them back as JSON that your browser draws. No second feed is blended in, nothing is typed in by hand, and no call is held back or reworded.
- Where does the Fire, Medical, or Traffic label on a card come from?
- From the heading of the table the call was listed under. Dauphin County does not put a category in a column; it splits the page into separate tables — fire, medical, traffic, controlled burns — and lists calls beneath the appropriate heading. Each row inherits the heading above it, so the label you see is the county grouping, tidied up for display.
- How are those labels turned into the five coloured filters?
- Headings are matched against a short keyword list. Anything containing FIRE, RESCUE, HAZMAT, or BURN becomes Fire, so controlled burns sit with fire calls. MEDICAL, EMS, or AMBULANCE becomes EMS. TRAFFIC, ROAD, or MVA becomes Traffic. POLICE or LAW becomes Police. A heading matching none of those lands in Other. Those five buckets are this site's, not the county's, and the original heading text stays visible on every card and stays searchable.
- How far behind the county page am I?
- At most four minutes, plus whatever lag the county page carries before that. The dashboard re-reads the source on a four-minute timer, counts down to the next read in the header, and refetches immediately if you press Refresh.
- Are road closures and out-of-service hydrants included?
- Yes, and they come from the same page. Dauphin County publishes a road closure table and an out-of-service hydrant table alongside the call tables, and both are carried here in an Advisories section that only appears when the county is reporting something. Not every Pennsylvania county publishes either list, so this part of the dashboard is specific to Dauphin.
- Does a card tell me which stations or units were sent?
- No. The Dauphin County feed does not publish assignments, and this site will not guess at them. What a card can show is the category heading, the event type, the street, a cross street when one is given, the municipality, and the time the call came in. Anything beyond that is not in the data.
- Can I listen to fire and EMS radio traffic while I read this?
- Yes — the Listen control in the header opens five Broadcastify feeds in a new tab. Four are Dauphin County fire and EMS feeds, including analogue and digital dispatch and an unencrypted public safety feed; the fifth is a wider Central PA fire and EMS feed that carries neighbouring counties too, which is useful when a call runs across a county line. The audio plays on Broadcastify, not here.
- Why is there no police audio in that list?
- Police talkgroups on the county radio system are encrypted, and encrypted traffic cannot be received by any scanner, app, or streaming site regardless of what it costs. That is a decision made at the county level rather than a gap on this site. Fire and EMS dispatch are still in the clear, which is why they are the feeds you see.
- Why does the map shade a whole municipality instead of dropping a pin?
- Because a pin would be an invention. The feed gives a road name and a municipality, never coordinates and never a house number, so the map colours each municipality as a single circle scaled to its real land area and leaves it at that. It is also the safer choice: a large share of calls are medical calls at private homes, and putting a marker on a specific address would effectively name whoever called 911. Boundaries come from public-domain US Census Bureau data.
- How much of the county is covered?
- All 40 municipalities in Dauphin County: 23 townships, 16 boroughs, and the City of Harrisburg, together roughly 525 square miles. Note that Halifax and Lykens each exist twice, once as a borough and once as a township, so the municipality type is part of how a call is matched. A call dispatched into a neighbouring county cannot be matched to a Dauphin municipality; those are counted and disclosed under the map rather than quietly dropped.
- Can I look up a call from last night?
- No. The county page is a snapshot of what is open at this moment, and this site keeps no archive of its own, so a call vanishes from here on the first read after it clears. There is no incident history, no blotter, and no arrest log to search.
- Is there a charge, and how is the site paid for?
- It is free, with no account and no paywall. Advertising covers the hosting bill, which is why you may see ads. Advertisers have no say in what appears on the dashboard — the list is whatever the county feed says it is.
